Denver Broncos Quarterbacks Top Ten List

There have been many Denver Broncos’ quarterbacks who have played for the team since 1960, the birth of the Denver Broncos. Only a handful of these quarterbacks had stand out careers. Here is our top ten list of Denver Broncos quarterbacks.

1.    John ElwayLegendary Broncos quarterback John Elway was the franchise (after Floyd Little). In 16 NFL seasons as the Broncos quarterback he led his team to a record five Super Bowls, winning the final two during his last two seasons in the league. He holds many Broncos’ records and some NFL records and is considered by many to be the Greatest Quarterback of All-Time. He is a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame. 2.    Peyton Manning - This legendary quarterback might be the best QB to ever lace them up. He owns Denver Broncos and NFL single season records for passing yards and touchdowns. Canton, Ohio and the Pro Football Hall of Fame await Manning five years after he retires.

3.    Craig Morton – Morton led the Denver Broncos to their first Super Bowl in the 1977 season. He brought steady quarterback play to the offense. Morton is in the Denver Broncos Ring of Fame.

4.    Jay Cutler – Cutler is only at the beginning of his career, but he has the intangibles to be a great Denver Broncos quarterback. He has a rocket arm and can make every play a QB needs to make.

5.    Charley Johnson – Johnson was an excellent NFL quarterback who played for the Broncos when they were not a very good team. When he played, he brought balance to the offense and complimented Floyd Little and the running game.

6.    Jake Plummer – Jake has the best winning percentage for quarterbacks in Denver Broncos history. He could make plays with his arm and his legs, but was inconsistent and failed to win the big playoff games.

7.    Frank Tripucka – Tripucka teamed up with All-AFL receiver Lionel Taylor to form perhaps the best tandem in the league. He was at the end of his career when he played for the Denver Broncos, but played well when he was healthy.

8.    Brian Griese – Griese played well in the west coast offense despite his limited ability. He made the Pro Bowl once with the Broncos and led the team to the playoffs for the first time after John Elway retired.

9.    Marlin Briscoe – The first black quarterback to start an NFL game during the modern era. After a fine rookie season when he passed for a Denver Broncos’ rookie record 14 touchdown passes, he was not asked back to play quarterback. This proved to be a huge mistake for the Denver Broncos.

10.    Steve DeBerg – DeBerg was a journeyman who was constantly being replaced by legendary quarterbacks. First by Joe Montana in San Francisco, then by John Elway as the Denver Broncos starting quarterback. He makes the final spot on our list of the Top Ten Denver Broncos Quarterbacks of all-time.

So now you have our take on the best Denver Broncos quarterbacks who have ever played. Here is a more complete list of Denver Broncos Players.
