    But as the French say, "plus ca change." Nothing ever changes for the Washington Redskins, who have remained mired in a morass of mediocrity going back to 1995.

    Over those 14 seasons, the Redskins have never topped 10-6 or sunk below 5-11. All 31 other teams have gone over one edge or the other at least once. Nineteen of those teams have been both better than 19-5 and worse than 5-11 during that span.

    But not the Redskins. Since the Republicans took control of Capitol Hill (they have since lost that power) for the first time in four decades back in 1995, Washington is 105-118-1 for a yearly average of 7.5 victories and 8.5...

  • Redskins tight end coach Simmons retires (AP)
    Washington Redskins tight ends coach Rennie Simmons, a holdover from Joe Gibbs' two tenures with the team, announced his retirement Wednesday. The 66-year-old Simmons has been an assistant coach for 27 seasons in the NFL, including 18 with the Redskins. He first joined the team in 1981 as the tight ends coach under Gibbs and later coached the offensive line and wide receivers.

The Washington Redskins began play in 1932 as the Boston Braves.  In 1933 they became the Redskins and moved to the nation’s capitol before the 1937 season.  The Redskins long history has also brought a long line of great teams, both in the days of Sammy Baugh and during the Joe Gibbs era.
